LADDER
Singles Ladder
The Singles Ladder gives players the opportunity to play matches with a variety of players in a competitive, but friendly environment.
The Ladder season will run from mid-October to the end of April.
Ladder entry costs $25 for the season. The club will be donating all proceeds towards the (Doug Philpott Inner-City Children’s Tennis Fund or a local charity that will be decided on).
The ladder is a Box Ladder. There will be 5 to 6 people in each box. The intention is that you will play each person in the box once during each session (roughly one month long). Players schedule matches at mutually convenient times and then report sores once the match is played. Details on how to record scores will be provided later.
You can join the ladder at any time during the season, however new entrants will only begin play at the beginning of the following session. At the end of each session (roughly one month), the Ladder will be reordered. The top 2 players will move up a box, the bottom 2 players will move down a box, and any new players will be added. To ensure active participation in the ladder, players who have not played any ladder matches at the end of one session may be removed from the ladder and will need to re-register to participate the following month.
When you begin play, you will be placed in a box with players of similar skill levels. The ladder is meant to give everyone a competitive match, so identifying your current skill level is important. The following page will help you to identify your skill level.
Note: To keep the levels of play balanced, accommodate new entrants, and to deal with players dropping off the ladder, reorderings and box sizes may vary slightly from the formula explained above.
SCORING
All Ladder Matches are one hour including warm-up. Matches will be an 8-game pro set with a tie-break played at 7-all. Should you run out of time the score recorded will be that at the end of the last completed game.
POINTS
All match results will have a score associated. Players get: 4 points for a win, 2 points for a tie, and 1 point for a loss. Players who play 4 matches within the month will receive 4 bonus points. Movement on the ladder will be based on point totals accumulated during the month.
DEFAULTS, RETIREMENTS and GAMES NOT SCHEDULED
If you are playing a match and one player has to withdraw because of injury, the other player will get all the remaining points available. For instance, if the score is 4-4 and player A retires, player B would win 8-4.
If scheduled match(es) aren’t played due to no-shows, the score will be 8-0 in favor of the player who shows up.
If both players cannot schedule a match after an honest attempt to play no match score will be assigned.
If you do not play any matches in a session, you may be dropped from the following session.
