Widely regarded as one of the most respected figures in global racquet sports, Karl brings a unique blend of executive leadership, coaching excellence, and philanthropic drive.

Karl’s career began as a top player for Jamaica’s Davis Cup team, where he competed from 1988–1999 and in 2004, holding the record for the longest three-set match in Davis Cup history (23–21 in the final set). He coached Canada’s Fed Cup team to a World Group play-off in 2003 and later returned to lead the Jamaican Davis Cup squad. He also spent five years coaching in Tokyo at the Kashiwa Lawn Tennis Club, helping his juniors earn over $1 million in scholarships.

Since 2006, Karl has served as Tournament Director of the National Bank Open presented by Rogers in Toronto — one of the largest and most prestigious tennis events in the world, drawing hundreds of thousands of fans and reaching a global audience of over 100 million viewers. Under his leadership, the tournament has become a model for fan experience, player satisfaction, and commercial success.
